December 25, 2024. An aircraft belonging to Azerbaijan Airlines, en route from Baku to Grozny, crashed in Aktau, Kazakhstan, where it had been diverted due to fog. On board were 37 Azerbaijani citizens, 16 Russians, six Kazakh nationals, and three citizens of Kyrgyzstan. According to the latest reports, 32 people survived the tragedy.
The Head of the Orthodox Church in Kazakhstan, Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, extends his condolences to the families and loved ones of those who perished and to those affected by the tragedy:
Sharing the deep sorrow of this irreplaceable loss, I offer my heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased and express words of sympathy and support to the injured and their families.
I lift up prayers that the Merciful Lord may strengthen the spiritual and physical endurance of all who have been touched by this tragedy and grant swift healing to those injured. May the Almighty Creator bestow His comfort upon all who grieve.
