Born on June 24, 1969, in the village of Kurchum, East Kazakhstan region, in a family of military personnel. Baptized in infancy.
In 1975, he moved with his family to the Tajik SSR.
In 1987, he graduated from Vocational School No. 30 in Dushanbe.
From 1987 to 1989, he served in the Soviet Armed Forces in Czechoslovakia.
In 1990, he moved to Tekeli in the Taldykorgan region.
Since 1991, he served as an altar server and reader in the Holy Trinity Church in Tekeli.
From 1993 to 1995, he studied at the Almaty Theological Seminary and continued his studies at the Tomsk Theological Seminary, graduating in 2011.
He is currently a student at the Moscow Theological Academy by correspondence.
On May 22, 1994, he was ordained a deacon, and on May 25, he was ordained a priest by Archbishop Alexy of Alma-Ata and Semipalatinsk (now Metropolitan of Tula and Efremov).
Since 1994, he has served as the rector of the Church of the Prophet Elijah in Serebryansk, East Kazakhstan region.
In 1998, he was tonsured a monk with the name Amphilochius in honor of Saint Amphilochius, Bishop of Iconium, by Abbot Platon (Divenko), the abbot of the Holy Trinity Monastery in Ust-Kamenogorsk.
On August 20, 1998, he was appointed rector of the Intercession Church in Ust-Kamenogorsk. Since 1999, he has been the dean of the Ust-Kamenogorsk Church District.
On Easter 2006, he was elevated to the rank of hegumen by Metropolitan Methodius of Astana and Alma-Ata (now Metropolitan of Perm and Kungur).
In 2007, he was appointed rector of the Annunciation Cathedral in Pavlodar and dean of the Pavlodar Church District.
In 2010, he was transferred to serve in the Southern capital and appointed rector of the Church of Christ the Savior in Almaty.
In 2011, he graduated from the Moscow State Professional Institute of Management.
He is an employee of the East Kazakhstan Ethnographic Museum dealing with issues of religion and ethnography of the Slavic peoples living in the East Kazakhstan Region. In cooperation with the museum, he has repeatedly organized ethnographic exhibitions with a spiritual and educational focus.
He is the founder of the historical and cultural public association "Ak-Baur," which focuses on the study and preservation of cultural heritage, as well as the identification and conservation of historical and spiritual monuments of Upper Irtysh.
He is a member of the Small Assembly of the Peoples of Kazakhstan.
Since 1999, he has been a board member of the International Prison Fellowship (Prison Fellowship International) (Lausanne, Switzerland).
By the decision of the Holy Synod on December 27, 2011 (Journal No. 147), he was elected Bishop of Ust-Kamenogorsk and Semipalatinsk.
On January 1, 2012, in the Ascension Cathedral in Almaty, he was elevated to the rank of archimandrite by Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan.
On February 3, 2012, at the Church of All Saints Who Shone in the Russian Land, in the Patriarchal and Synodal residence at the Danilov Monastery in Moscow, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia led the rite of the nomination of Archimandrite Amphilochius (Bondarenko) as Bishop of Ust-Kamenogorsk and Semipalatinsk.
On February 26, 2012, during the Divine Liturgy at the Church of the Great Martyr Demetrius of Thessaloniki in Moscow, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill presided over the consecration of Archimandrite Amphilochius (Bondarenko) as Bishop of Ust-Kamenogorsk and Semipalatinsk.
On May 6, 2022, during the Liturgy at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow, he was elevated to the rank of archbishop by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill.
