Sunday After Theophany. The Head of the Metropolitan District Celebrates the Liturgy at the Church of the Holy Martyrs Faith, Hope, Love, and Their Mother Sophia
January 26, 2025 – 31st Sunday after Pentecost, Sunday After Theophany; the commemoration of Venerable Irinarch, the Recluse of Rostov.
Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Church of the Holy Martyrs Faith, Hope, Love, and Their Mother Sophia, located at the Patriarchal Representation in Moscow – the Representation of the Metropolitan District of the Russian Orthodox Church in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
 
His Eminence was concelebrated by:
Protopriest Alexey Marchenko, Acting Rector of the Church of St. Clement, Pope of Rome, in Zamoskvorechye, and Head of the Doctoral Department of the Saints Cyril and Methodius Graduate and Doctoral School of the Russian Orthodox Church;
Protopriest Evgeny Ivanov, Acting Rector of the Almaty Theological Seminary and Head of the Information Department of the Metropolitan District;
Igumen Agafangel (Gagua), Prorector of the Almaty Theological Seminary, Candidate of Theology, Doctor of Medical Sciences, and Professor;
Hieromonk Antony (Drobiazko), Sacristan of the Church of the Holy Martyrs Faith, Hope, Love, and Their Mother Sophia;
Clergy of the metachion.
 
The choir of the church, directed by Anna Rozhnova, performed the liturgical hymns.
 
Attending the service were Nikolay V. Parshikov, Deputy Head of the Secretariat of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, as well as parishioners and staff of the Representation.
 
During the litany for the departed, the recently reposed Primate of the Albanian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Archbishop Anastasios of Tirana and All Albania, who departed to the Lord on January 25, was prayerfully commemorated.
 
The Liturgy concluded with hymns celebrating the Feast of Theophany, after which Metropolitan Alexander addressed the faithful with a sermon.
 
Following the service, in recognition of contributions to the strengthening and development of Orthodox education and science, and on the occasion of the 55th birthday of Protopriest Alexey Marchenko, Metropolitan Alexander awarded him the Order of St. Sophronius (Sokolsky), Archbishop of Tashkent and Enlightener of Semirechye. His Eminence wished the priest health, many years, and God’s help in his continued service to the Holy Church.
