The Head of the Metropolis Conducted the Liturgy at the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in the Southern Capital

August 18, 2024 – 8th Sunday after Pentecost, Forefeast of the Transfiguration of the Lord.

Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of St. Alexander Nevsky in Almaty.

Concelebrating with the Head of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan were: Bishop Veniamin of Talgar, Vicar of the Astana Diocese; Dean of the Churches of the Southern Capital and Rector of St. Nicholas Cathedral, Protopriest Valery Zakharov; Rector of the Church of St. Paraskeva and St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, Protopriest Ioann Lopatin; Dean of the Ili Church District and Rector of the Dormition Parish, Protopriest Alexander Zyryanov; Sacristan of Christ the Nativity Cathedral, Protopriest Alexander Gaichenya; Rector of the Epiphany Church, Protopriest Valery Shavrin; Sacristan of St. Peter and Paul Church, Protopriest Kirill Shklyar; Head of the Metropolitan’s Personal Secretariat, Hieromonk Prokhor (Yendovitsky); Sacristan of the Adriano-Natalia Church, Priest Ioann Konoplev; Head of the Metropolitan’s Protocol Service, Protodeacon Roman Golovin; and Protodeacon Vladimir Syrovatsky.

For the spiritual consolation of the faithful, an exact replica, "measure for measure," of the miraculous icon of the Mother of God "The Healer" was brought to the church for the service.

During the reading of the Hours, His Eminence tonsured Ioann Zhuchkov, a third-year student of the Almaty Theological Seminary, as a reader.

The choir of St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, under the direction of choir director A. Kulmetov, sang during the service.

After the Eucharistic Canon, Metropolitan Alexander performed the ordination of Reader Ioann Zhuchkov as a deacon.

The sermon after the Communion Hymn was delivered by Protopriest Kirill Shklyar.

Following the dismissal of the Divine Liturgy, a hymn of praise to the Queen of Heaven was sung before the icon of the Mother of God "The Healer." His Eminence then congratulated the clergy and laity on the Sunday and the beginning of the celebration of the Transfiguration of the Lord, offering words of instruction.
 The Head of the Metropolitan District sprinkled the faithful with holy water.
