October 5, 2024 — the feast day of the Prophet Jonah and the Holy Hieromartyr Benjamin, Bishop of Uralsk. Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Church of the Exaltation of the Cross in the Karasu microdistrict of Almaty.
Concelebrating with His Eminence were: Bishop Gennady of Kaskelen, Chancellor of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan; Bishop Benjamin of Talgar, Vicar of the Astana Diocese; Protopriest Valery Zakharov, Dean of Almaty Parishes and Rector of St. Nicholas Cathedral; Protopriest Evgeny Vorobyev, Rector of the Almaty Church of the “Joy of All Who Sorrow” Icon of the Theotokos; Priest Roman Burdukov, Sacristan of the Exaltation of the Cross Church; Hieromonk Levky (Ershov), Cleric of the Exaltation of the Cross Church; Hieromonk Prokhor (Endovitsky), Head of the Metropolitan’s Personal Secretariat; Priest Georgy Rublinsky, Sacristan of Kazan Cathedral in Almaty; Protodeacon Nikolai Grinkevich, Head of the Metropolitan’s Protocol Service Protodeacon Roman Golovin, Protodeacon Vladimir Syrovatsky, and Deacon Pavel Kornienko.
The choir of the Exaltation of the Cross Church sang the hymns of the Liturgy.
Among those praying at the service were the parishioners of the church and residents from nearby areas. The homily after Communion was delivered by Priest Georgy Rublinsky.
At the conclusion of the service, His Eminence addressed the faithful with words of spiritual edification. The Head of the Metropolis then sprinkled the gathered congregation with holy water.
