A Festive Liturgy was Held in the Church of Christ the Savior (“Golden Church”) in the City of Uralsk on the Occasion of the Arrival of the Reliquary with the Relics of Blessed Matrona of Moscow
October 8, 2024 – the commemoration day of Venerable Sergius, Hegumen of Radonezh.
A festive Divine Liturgy was held in the “Golden Church” of Uralsk – the Church of Christ the Savior – on the occasion of the arrival of the reliquary with the relics of Blessed Matrona of Moscow in the capital of Western Kazakhstan.
 
The head of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan was concelebrated by: the Vicar of the Astana Diocese, Bishop Klavdian of Taldykorgan, Bishop Vianor of Uralsk and Atyrau; Archimandrite Feodosiy (Kuryanov), rector of the Cathedral of the Archangel Michael in Uralsk; Protopriest Evgeniy Vorobyev, rector of the Church of the “Joy of All Who Sorrow” Icon of the Mother of God in Almaty; Hegumen Ilia (Danileiko), rector of the Church of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker in Uralsk; Protopriest Anatoliy Robu, rector of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Uralsk; Protopriest Vladimir Garasim, dean of the Uralsk district; Protopriest Anatoliy Sedov; Hieromonk Prokhor (Endovitsky), head of the metropolitan’s secretariat; Priest Georgiy Sidorov, head of the administrative secretariat of the head of the Metropolitan District; Priest Georgiy Rublinsky, sacristan of the Kazan Cathedral in Almaty; Archdeacon Vasiliy (Kryukov), secretary of the Uralsk Diocesan Administration; Protodeacon Nikolai Grinkevich, head of the metropolitan’s protocol service; Protodeacon Roman Golovin; Protodeacon Vladimir Syrovatsky; Hierodeacon Arseniy (Rybalchenko); and Deacon Rustik Yakupov.
 
The choir of the Church of Christ the Savior, directed by Olga Varfolomeeva, performed the liturgical chants.
 
Among those present for the service were Archbishop Antoniy (Moskalenko), Abbess Varvara (Morozova), superior of the Intercession Monastery, along with nuns of the monastery; the Consul General of the Russian Federation in Uralsk, A.V. Grubyi; members of the Cossack community, Sunday school students, parishioners of the churches of Uralsk, and pilgrims from surrounding towns and villages.
 
Following the communion hymn, Priest Georgiy Sidorov read the address of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan on the occasion of the arrival of the relics of Blessed Matrona of Moscow in Kazakhstan.
 
At the conclusion of the Liturgy, hymns of praise were sung to Venerable Sergius of Radonezh and Blessed Matrona before the reliquary containing her relics.
 
After the dismissal of the service, prayers were offered for the health and longevity of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia; the Head and episcopate of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District; the President, authorities, military, and all the people of Kazakhstan.
 
Bishop Vianor of Uralsk and Atyrau expressed his gratitude to Metropolitan Alexander for the spiritual gift to the people of Western Kazakhstan – the opportunity to venerate one of the greatest treasures of Orthodoxy, the relics of Blessed Matrona of Moscow.
 
The head of the Metropolitan District congratulated the hierarchs, clergy, and all participants of the celebration on the arrival of the relics of this particularly venerated saint in the Orthodox world, and addressed the faithful with a word of edification.
 
After the Liturgy, the veneration of the relics of Blessed Matrona began. Residents and visitors of the city of Uralsk, along with a large number of pilgrims from towns and villages throughout Western Kazakhstan, gathered to offer prayers.
