October 7, 2024. The visit of the relics of Blessed Matrona of Moscow to Astana and Almaty has concluded.
From September 28 to November 10, 2024, with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, the great relics—the relics and a portion of the vestments of Blessed Matrona of Moscow, venerated by millions of Orthodox believers around the world—are visiting the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District.
From September 28 to October 7, 43,169 people venerated the holy relics of Saint Matrona in the capital city of Kazakhstan, Astana, while 58,200 pilgrims prayed before the relics in Almaty. The flow of those wishing to offer prayers before the holy relics in the main cities of Kazakhstan continued almost around the clock. The clergy of the capital’s deaneries continuously served supplicatory services with the Akathist to the holy woman.
On the evening of October 7, the reliquary with the relics of Blessed Matrona departed for the city of Uralsk.
The pilgrimage of the holy relics is timed to the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Astana and Almaty Diocese and the upcoming 15th anniversary of the canonical status of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District.
In response to the petition of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill granted his Primatial blessing for the relics of Blessed Matrona to visit diocesan centers for veneration and the spiritual strengthening of the faithful in Kazakhstan. The relics are being accompanied on this pilgrimage by Metropolitan Alexander and other hierarchs and clergy of Kazakhstan.
Support for the visit of the holy relics is being provided by the “Apostle” Public Foundation (President – G.G. Sosnovsky).
