October 15, 2024 – Feast Day of the Holy Hieromartyr Cyprian, Martyr Justina, and Martyr Theoctistus; Blessed Andrew, Fool-for-Christ of Constantinople; Righteous Warrior Theodore Ushakov; and the Righteous Princess Anna of Kashin.
Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Church of St. Matrona in the Iveron-Seraphim Convent in Almaty, the house church of the Almaty Orthodox Theological Seminary.
Concelebrating with His Eminence were: Protopriest Evgeny Vorobyov, rector of the church dedicated to the icon of the Theotokos “Joy of All Who Sorrow” in Almaty; Protopriest Evgeny Ivanov, acting rector of the Almaty Orthodox Theological Seminary and head of the information department of the Metropolitan District; Priest Ioann Livinsky, vice-rector for educational work; Hieromonk Prokhor (Yendovitsky), head of the metropolitan’s personal secretariat; Hierodeacon Athanasius (Kozel), and Deacon Roman Karaman.
In attendance for the Liturgy were: Abbess Lyubov (Yakushkina), the superior of the Iveron-Seraphim Convent, along with the sisters of the convent; Oleg Ovchinnikov, secretary of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District, member of the Patriarchal Council for the Development of Church Singing, and Honored Artist of Russia; staff members of the Almaty Diocesan Administration, seminary students, and parishioners of the convent.
For the prayerful veneration of the faithful, an icon containing relics of the Holy Hieromartyr Cyprian and Martyr Justina was brought into the church for the service.
The choir of the Sophia Cathedral, directed by O. Usoltseva, sang during the service.
At the conclusion of the Liturgy, a prayer of glorification was offered to the saints commemorated on that day. Metropolitan Alexander then addressed the congregation with words of spiritual exhortation.
His Eminence warmly congratulated Protopriest Evgeny Ivanov, the acting rector of the Almaty Orthodox Theological Seminary, on his birthday, presenting him with a holy prosphora and a pectoral cross, and wished him health and God’s help in his service to the Church of Christ.
