December 10, 2024. Almaty. The meeting between Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan and Yerulan Musakhanovich Kanapyanov, President of the Eurasian Cultural Foundation, took place at the Metropolitan Joseph (Chernov) Spiritual, Cultural, and Administrative Center of the Kazakhstan Metropolis.
Yerulan Musakhanovich Kanapyanov is a renowned composer, a member of the Union of Composers of Kazakhstan, a public figure, and a philanthropist. He is also the General Director of the International Ballet Festival “Prize of Traditions,” President of the Altyn Adam Foundation, Founder of the International Choreographic Competition "Өрлеу," a member of the Board of Trustees of the T.K. Zhurgenov Kazakh National Academy of Arts, the Almaty Musical College named after P. Tchaikovsky, and the Almaty Choreographic School named after A. Seleznev.
The meeting was attended by Acting Rector of the Almaty Orthodox Theological Seminary, Protopriest Evgeny Ivanov; the seminary’s Vice-Rector for Educational Work, Priest Ioann Livinsky; and Secretary of the Eurasian Cultural Foundation, E. Parfentyeva.
After exchanging greetings, Metropolitan Alexander shared insights about the life and activities of the Orthodox Church in Kazakhstan, with a particular emphasis on the cultural and spiritual-educational projects undertaken under the aegis of the Metropolis.
Yerulan Musakhanovich presented His Eminence with an overview of the work of the Eurasian Cultural Foundation, established in December 2004 to foster, enhance, and expand cultural cooperation between institutions, organizations, and cultural figures, as well as to promote the cultural heritage and traditions of the peoples of Eurasia.
The Primate of the Orthodox Church in Kazakhstan and Y.M. Kanapyanov discussed potential areas of collaboration between the Metropolis’s Department of Culture and the Eurasian Cultural Foundation.
Yerulan Musakhanovich presented a diploma and a named scholarship from the Eurasian Cultural Foundation to Gleb Bogdanov, a first-year seminary student who demonstrated excellent academic performance and actively participated in organizing and conducting cultural and educational events.
The meeting, held in a cordial atmosphere, concluded with an exchange of best wishes. The Metropolitan presented his guest with his scholarly work, Christianity in Central Asia, the latest issue of the theological journal Theological Bulletin, and the 2025 Metropolis calendar. In turn, Y.M. Kanapyanov gifted the archpastor his book of documentary stories and essays, The Universe of Destiny.
