At the Vladimir Parish of Chemolgan Station, a Mathematics Olympiad for Schoolchildren Took Place
December 1, 2024. With the blessing of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, the 11th intellectual tournament “Kings of Mathematics” was held at the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God Parish at Chemolgan Station.
 
The event, organized by the Astana Diocese’s Commission on Educational Ministry, brought together students from the Sunday schools of five parishes of the Almaty Diocese.
 
Before the competition began, Yu.F. Sabirova, a lecturer in the Department of Mathematical and Computer Modeling at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, gave a talk to the participants about fractals—figures possessing the property of self-similarity—and the golden ratio, an ideal proportion where the ratio of parts to each other and to the whole remains harmonious.
 
Following this, the participants worked on their assignments for one hour.
 
The winners of the tournament, as determined by the evaluation of their work, were:
 
Preschoolers – 1st Grade Students
  • 1st Place: Maxim Polyakov (Church of the Iveron Icon of the Mother of God, Burundai settlement)
2nd–3rd Grades
  • 1st Place: Sofia Goncharova and Tatyana Bocharova (Church of St. John the Theologian, Almaty)
  • 2nd Place: Tamerlan Baymbetov (Church of Christ the Savior, Almaty) and Kira Malygina (Church of St. John the Theologian, Almaty)
  • 3rd Place: Darya Mishchenko (Church of St. John the Theologian, Almaty) and Radmir Lee (Church of St. Seraphim of Sarov, Chapayevo settlement)
4th–5th Grades
  • 1st Place: Maria Kulikanova and Matvey Belov (Church of Christ the Savior, Almaty)
  • 2nd Place: Taisiya Sapronova (Church of St. Seraphim of Sarov, Chapayevo settlement)
  • 3rd Place: Igor Polyakov (Church of the Iveron Icon of the Mother of God, Burundai settlement)
6th–7th Grades
  • 1st Place: Yaroslav Bityukov (Vladimir Church, Chemolgan Station)
8th–9th Grades
  • 1st Place: Sergey Kulikanov (Church of Christ the Savior, Almaty)
All participants of the event received books and board games as gifts from the Almaty Diocesan Administration.
