On December 6, 2024, at L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University in Astana, a presentation was held for the scholarly work by seminary lecturer Priest Mikhail Berezin, The Orthodox Church in Northern Kazakhstan (1920–1930): A Historical and Documentary Collection.
The research was published with the support of the Almaty Orthodox Theological Seminary.
The event took place within the framework of an academic seminar at the Department of Religious Studies.
Participants included Acting Head of the Department of Religious Studies B. Kalemshariv, Professor Y.V. Shapoval, faculty members, doctoral candidates, graduate students, and undergraduates of the university.
Priest Mikhail introduced the audience to the structure and unique aspects of the book. The author emphasized that the academic work addresses little-studied topics concerning the history of the Russian Orthodox Church in Northern Kazakhstan during the 1920s and 1930s. Using archival data, the study illustrates the tragic process of the near-complete destruction of church life in Northern Kazakhstan over two prewar decades.
During the presentation, the seminary lecturer highlighted that the research is based on a corpus of previously unused or little-known sources stored in the archives of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation.
At the conclusion of the event, the author of the book answered questions from the audience.
