December 15, 2024. Almaty. By the blessing of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, a celebration of the Day of the Cossack Mother was held in the conference hall of the Kazakhstan Hotel.
The event was dedicated to Kazakhstan’s Independence Day and organized by the following groups: the Association of Russian, Cossack, and Slavic Organizations of Kazakhstan, the Union of Cossacks of Semirechye, the Russian Center, the Slavic Movement, the public association “Folk Traditions of Semirechye,” the Department for Interaction with the Cossacks of the Kazakhstani Metropolitan District, and the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan.
The celebration was attended by the Sacristan of the Christ Nativity Cathedral in Almaty, Protopriest Alexander Gaichenya, along with Cossacks and leaders of ethnocultural associations.
Vladimir Semyonovich Shikhotov, Chairman of the Almaty city branch of the Association of Russian, Slavic, and Cossack Organizations of Kazakhstan, Ataman of the Union of Cossacks of Semirechye, and member of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan, delivered a welcoming speech. He warmly congratulated the Cossack women on the occasion, wishing them health and family well-being, and extended greetings from Valery Kuzmich Bozhko, Chairman of the Association of Russian, Slavic, and Cossack Organizations of Kazakhstan.
The highlight of the evening was the 90th birthday celebration of Hero of Socialist Labor and member of the Council of Cossack Mothers of the Union of Cossacks of Semirechye, Vera Vasilievna Sidorova.
On behalf of the Ataman of the All-Russian Cossack Society, member of the Council for Cossack Affairs under the President of Russia, and Cossack General V.V. Kuznetsov, Vladimir Semyonovich presented Vera Vasilievna with the medal “For Contribution to the Development of Cossack Education and Patriotic Upbringing.”
Protopriest Alexander Gaichenya announced a decree from the Head of the Orthodox Church in Kazakhstan, conferring on Vera Vasilievna a high ecclesiastical award—the Order of “Ынталы Қызмет Үшiн” (For Zealous Service). He conveyed the metropolitan’s congratulations and presented her with the award.
The medals “Ата-Анадаңқы” (Parental Glory) from the Kazakhstani Metropolitan District were awarded to the following individuals: Hero of Socialist Labor Vera Vasilievna Sidorova, Hero of Socialist Labor Lyubov Vasilyevna Kochetova, Chairwoman of the Council of Cossack Mothers Ekaterina Vasilyevna Shikhotova, Anastasia Vasilyevna Nemchinova, and Maria Nikolaevna Bezlepina.
All the Cossack women received bouquets of flowers, certificates of appreciation, and souvenirs.
The ceremony concluded with a concert featuring traditional Cossack songs and dances, as well as demonstrations of sword and whip techniques.
