The Orthodox Charity Service “Mercy” Congratulated Its Beneficiaries on the Nativity of Christ

The Orthodox Charity Service “Mercy” Congratulated Its Beneficiaries on the Nativity of Christ
With the blessing of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, the Orthodox Charity Service “Mercy” of the Astana and Almaty Diocese organized social and charitable events dedicated to the Nativity of Christ during the pre-New Year period and the Holy Days.

Volunteers from the social service and sisters of mercy congratulated the beneficiaries of their programs, including patients receiving targeted assistance, the Almaty nursing care hospital, the Southern Capital Palliative Care Center (Hospice), the Kazakh Research Institute of Oncology and Radiology, the Almaty Diocese Crisis Center for Women “House for Mothers,” and elderly residents of the nursing home at the Center for Social Protection of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District in the village of Tuimebayeva, Almaty Region.

The organizers distributed gifts to more than 300 people. Volunteers presented handmade greeting cards crafted by children from large families. Pupils of the Central Sunday School of Almaty performed a concert program.

The diocesan “Mercy” service also held the charitable campaign “Bring Joy at Christmas.” Following established tradition, children from socially vulnerable and large families wrote letters with their wishes. Thanks to the efforts of Almaty residents, parishioners, and volunteers, 199 children received gifts for the bright feast of the Nativity.

On January 12, as part of the campaign, a Christmas tree event for children from low-income families was held in the parish hall of St. Nicholas Cathedral. Before the performance, Hieromonk Cherubim (Levin) congratulated the audience on the Nativity of Christ. Members of parish youth clubs presented a musical play, followed by dances, games, and contests around the Christmas tree with fairy-tale characters.
