In the academic journal Ipatievsky Vestnik, an article by Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan has been published, посвященная the works of Archimandrite Sophronius (Sokolsky), subsequently the first Archbishop of Turkestan, during his service as rector of the seminaries of Kamianets-Podilskyi, Yaroslavl, Tver, and Mogilev (from 1839 to 1847).
Title of the publication: “ ‘A Teacher by Vocation’: Archimandrite Sophronius (Sokolsky), subsequently the first Archbishop of Turkestan — Rector of the Kamianets-Podilskyi, Yaroslavl, Tver, and Mogilev Seminaries (1839–1847)”.
The article is devoted to an analysis of the administrative and pedagogical ministry of Archimandrite Sophronius (Sokolsky) — the future first Archbishop of Turkestan — in his capacity as rector of four theological seminaries (Kamianets-Podilskyi, Yaroslavl, Tver, and Mogilev) in 1839–1847. The study identifies his contribution to the development of the seminaries in the conditions of the western outskirts of the Russian Empire, as well as the особенности of his interaction, as rector, with diocesan hierarchs.
The journal Ipatievsky Vestnik is published by the Kostroma Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church and is included in the List of peer-reviewed academic journals in which the main results of dissertations for the degree of Doctor of Theology must be published (VAK List), as well as Doctor of Theology and Doctor of Church History (List of the General Church Postgraduate and Doctoral School).
