A pilgrimage route from Almaty to the house-museum of Holy Martyr Vasily (Kolmykov) in the city of Zharkent has been launched

September 9, 2024. Zharkent City, Zhetysu Region. With the blessing of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, the museum-pilgrimage center – the house of Holy Martyr Vasily of Zharkent – has begun its operation.

The memorial house was created by the "Apostle" public fund, initiated by the organization's president, G.G. Sosnovsky.

As part of the "Golden Ring of Kazakhstan" project, the "Apostle" fund has developed a pilgrimage-tourist route from Almaty to the museum center. The route includes visits to the memorial house, the site of the martyrdom of priest Vasily Kolmykov, and the old cemetery where the pastor was buried alongside other martyrs of the faith. Participants of the journey will also have the opportunity to visit one of the most remarkable and beautiful locations in Kazakhstan – the Charyn Canyon, which is included in the map of sacred places of the Republic.

Experienced tour guides will accompany pilgrims and tourists throughout the trip.

The house-museum presents unique items related to the life and works of Holy Martyr Vasily, including personal belongings and documents that tell the story of Orthodoxy in the region. A special place in the exhibit is dedicated to an icon of the saint, crafted in the finest traditions of Palekh masters. Visitors can offer prayers before the image of the martyr-priest for the well-being of their loved ones.

A church shop and a refectory are available, where pilgrims can replenish their strength. All dishes are prepared in accordance with the Church's fasting and non-fasting rules. Souvenirs are available for visitors to purchase as a keepsake of their pilgrimage.

With the blessing of Metropolitan Alexander, the "Apostle" fund has published a small book recounting the life and feats of Holy Martyr Vasily of Zharkent, along with icons of the saint.

The first group of pilgrims visited the house-museum on September 7. The participants noted the high level of pilgrimage organization and the serene atmosphere in the memorial center.
