The Publishing House of the Metropolitan District of Kazakhstan has released the official 2025 calendar of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan. This calendar is a comprehensive liturgical and reference publication, which traditionally includes the calendar that will guide the life and prayers of Orthodox parishes in Kazakhstan for the upcoming year, along with informative sections.
The upcoming year is marked by several important commemorations and anniversaries for the Russian Orthodox Church and the Metropolitan District of Kazakhstan, which are highlighted in the calendar. In 2025, Orthodox believers will prayerfully celebrate the 1575th anniversary of the repose of St. Pimen the Great, the 350th anniversary of the appearance of the Pochaev Icon of the Mother of God, and the 100th anniversary of the repose of Patriarch Tikhon of Moscow and All Russia.
In the upcoming year, celebrations will be held to mark the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the canonical status of the Metropolitan District of Kazakhstan – the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan; the 225th anniversary of the birth of Archbishop Sofony (Sokolsky), the first hierarch of the land of Kazakhstan; the 70th anniversary of the repose and the 25th anniversary of the uncovering of the relics of Confessor Nicholas, Metropolitan of Alma-Ata and Kazakhstan; and the 50th anniversary of the repose of Confessor of the Faith and Ascetic of Piety, Metropolitan Joseph (Chernov) of Alma-Ata and Kazakhstan.
The calendar follows the tradition of the Russian Orthodox Church, presenting for each day of the year a list of saints, events in Church history, and venerated icons of the Most Holy Theotokos, whose memory and celebration are observed by the Church on that day. It also provides references to passages of Holy Scripture to be read during the services, as well as fasting instructions and brief liturgical notes in special cases. The calendar particularly highlights the days of remembrance for the New Martyrs and Confessors of Kazakhstan, and the venerated icons of the Mother of God honored within the District.
The reference section contains information about the archpastors and dioceses of the Metropolitan District of the Russian Orthodox Church in the Republic of Kazakhstan, including detailed contact information and photographs of the episcopate, as well as details about the highest theological educational institution of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan – the Almaty Orthodox Theological Seminary.
The publication, which opens with a portrait of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, is well-illustrated. High-quality photographs highlight the events of church life in Kazakhstan and the ministry of the Head of the Metropolitan District during 2023-2024. Among the most significant events are: the 30th anniversary of the glorification of the Holy Martyrs Seraphim and Feognost; the 15th anniversary of the universal glorification of the Assembly of New Martyrs and Confessors of Kazakhstan; the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Diocese of Astana and Almaty; the bringing of the miraculous icon of the Mother of God "The Healer" to Kazakhstan; and the consecration of Archimandrite Vianor (Ivanov) as Bishop of Uralsk and Atyrau.
On the front cover of the calendar, there is an image of the Cathedral of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos in the city of Atyrau.
The third page of the cover features a photo of the tomb containing the relics of St. Nicholas, the Confessor, Metropolitan of Almaty and Kazakhstan, from the St. Nicholas Cathedral in Almaty.
On the fourth page of the cover, there is a photo of the Chapel of the Resurrection of Christ at the Iveron-Seraphim Convent in the Southern capital, the resting place of the ever-memorable Archbishop Sophrony (Sokolsky) of Turkestan and Tashkent, the Apostle of the Great Steppe.
The publication is made with the blessing of the Head of the Metropolitan District of the Russian Orthodox Church in the Republic of Kazakhstan, Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan.
The calendar is available for purchase at church shops.
