On October 12, 2024, in Almaty, the “Almaty Autumn” festival took place on the grounds of the Iversko-Seraphim Monastery, with the blessing of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan. The event was dedicated to the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Astana and Almaty Diocese.
The festival was organized by the Cultural Department of the Metropolitan District of Kazakhstan (led by the Honored Cultural Worker L.E. Goricheva) and the public organization “Russian House,” with the support of the General Consulate of the Russian Federation in the Southern capital.
The celebration was headed by Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan.
Participants included: Protopriest Evgeny Ivanov, Acting Rector of the Almaty Orthodox Theological Seminary and head of the Metropolitan District’s Information Department; Hieromonk Prokhor (Endovitsky), head of the Metropolitan’s personal secretariat; Priest Georgiy Sidorov, head of the administrative secretariat of the Metropolitan District; Protodeacon Roman Golovin, head of the Metropolitan’s protocol service; Abbess Lyubov (Yakushkina), head of the Iversko-Seraphim Women’s Monastery; G.G. Sosnovsky, President of the public foundation “Apostle”; L.E. Goricheva, Honored Cultural Worker of the Russian Federation and head of the Cultural Department of the Metropolitan District of Kazakhstan; T.V. Zubkova, head of educational projects at Rossotrudnichestvo; A.P. Solovyov, Prorector for Scientific Work of the Almaty Theological Seminary and Candidate of Philosophical Sciences; and children from Sunday schools and parishioners from churches in the Southern capital.
A special guest at the festival was Dmitry A. Turaev, General Consul of the Russian Federation in Almaty.
Before the start of the event, Metropolitan Alexander addressed the attendees with a welcoming speech.
The festival featured creative workshops for children and adults, musical performances by groups from the Southern capital, and art therapy sessions. A farmers’ market was also held on the monastery grounds, offering fresh produce from local homesteads. Guests were treated to baked goods and hot tea from a samovar.
Metropolitan Alexander took the opportunity to engage with the festival’s guests and organizers, extending his wishes for the children’s bright hopes and cheerful spirits.
