October 19, 2024. Almaty. With the blessing of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, a masterclass was held at the Zhambyl Kazakh State Philharmonic featuring Honored Cultural Worker of Russia O.N. Ovchinnikov and the conductor of the choir of the Epiphany Cathedral in Yelokhovo, Moscow, A.K. Mayorov.
The event took place as part of the scientific-practical conference “Choir Conducting Service in the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan: The Path to Mastery.”
Participants in the creative workshop included the choir of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District and choir conductors from the churches of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan.
During the masterclass, the renowned church choir conductors worked with the singers on the technical aspects of conducting classical liturgical works and their practical application.
O.N. Ovchinnikov, the choir conductor of the Metropolitan District, provided the attendees with methodological recommendations for performing liturgical chants. He particularly emphasized that the choice of repertoire should be based on an objective assessment of the vocal abilities and musical literacy of the choir members.
At the conclusion of the session, the renowned church choir conductors answered questions from the choir members.
