Children’s Geography Olympiad Held at the Church of St. Vladimir in Chemolgan Station

On October 27, 2024, with the blessing of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, a geography Olympiad was held at the Church of St. Vladimir in Chemolgan Station among students of Sunday schools from the Almaty Diocese.

Before the intellectual competition, G.E. Golovina, author of Kazakhstani school textbooks on geography and world studies, gave an introductory lecture on the African continent. Galina Yevgrafovna spoke to the young audience about the history of exploration of the Black Continent, its terrain, natural resources, climate, bodies of water, ecological zones, and the continent’s plant and animal life.

Following the lecture, participants were given questions to test their knowledge of the physical geography of Africa.

The winners of the Olympiad were:

  • Ksenia Bufius and Yevgenia Boginskaya (Church of St. Seraphim of Sarov, Chapayevo village, Almaty Region)
  • Sergey Kulikanov (Church of Christ the Savior, Almaty)
