November 23, 2024. Almaty. By the blessing of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, the section on “Orthodox Pedagogy” was held in the church assembly hall of St. Nicholas Cathedral as part of the XXII Almaty Orthodox Educational Readings in memory of St. Sofony (Sokolsky).
The session was moderated by Bishop Gennady of Kaskelen, Vicar of the Astana Diocese, Chancellor of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan, and lecturer in the pastoral department of the Almaty Theological Seminary, who holds a candidate degree in theology.
Participants and guests of the conference included: Honored Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation, Head of the Culture Department of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District, and Head of the Choir Conducting Department at the theological school, L.E. Goricheva; Director of the Central Sunday School at St. Nicholas Cathedral, G.V. Cherepanova; staff members of the Culture Department of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District; the administration and teachers of the Central Sunday School; leaders and teachers of Sunday schools from the diocese; and students of the Choir Conducting Department of the Almaty Orthodox Theological Seminary.
Bishop Gennady delivered an opening address to inaugurate the academic forum.
During the session, the following presentations were made:

"Pedagogical Ideas of K.D. Ushinsky in the Light of Orthodoxy” – Bishop Gennady of Kaskelen, Chancellor of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan;

“The Importance of Creativity in Personal Development” – Director of the Central Sunday School, G.V. Cherepanova;

“Fostering the Personality of an Orthodox Christian (Citizen and Patriot) Through Engagement with Church Art in the Practical Work of Sunday Schools” – Head of the Church Singing School “Tsevnitza” at the Ascension Cathedral in Almaty, N.O. Golovina;

“Basic Principles and Methods of Teaching Canonical Subjects in Parish Sunday Schools” – Deputy Head of the Parish School at the Church of St. John the Theologian, I.V. Bykova.
Following the presentations, participants discussed the reports and summarized the work of the section.
The event concluded with a small concert program performed by the students of the Church Singing School “Tsevnitza” at the Ascension Cathedral in Almaty.
