December 2, 2024. On the feast day of Saint Philaret, Metropolitan of Moscow, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow.
Before the service, the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church venerated the relics of Saint Philaret.
On the same day, the final stage of the III Patriarchal International Festival of Sacred Music, “The Light of Christ,” took place in Moscow. Among the laureates was the choral ensemble from Almaty’s Iveron-Seraphim Women’s Monastery, conducted by O.B. Usoltseva. The choir participated in the Divine Liturgy as part of the combined festival choir.
His Holiness Patriarch Kirill was joined in the service by a host of hierarchs and clergy. The congregation included nuns from Moscow’s women’s monasteries and numerous faithful.
The liturgical hymns were performed by the combined choir of laureates of the III Patriarchal International Festival of Sacred Music. The choir was directed by V.A. Volkova, Secretary of the Church-Public Council under the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia for the Development of Russian Church Singing; A.A. Puzakov, Head of the Moscow Synodal Choir; A.K. Mayorov, Senior Choir Conductor of the Epiphany Cathedral in Yelokhovo, Moscow; and O.N. Ovchinnikov, Honored Artist of Russia, Secretary of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District, and Conductor of the Metropolitan Choir.
During the Liturgy, Father Vladislav Mishin, Acting Chairman of the Expert Council on Church Art, Architecture, and Restoration, was awarded the right to wear a pectoral cross with embellishments in recognition of his service to the Church and in celebration of his 50th birthday.
At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, His Holiness performed a prayer service and recited a prayer at the reliquary of Saint Philaret. The Patriarch then delivered his Primatial address to the faithful.
That evening, a gala concert and award ceremony for the festival “The Light of Christ” took place in the Hall of Church Councils at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. The choral ensemble of the Iveron-Seraphim Monastery of Almaty was awarded the First Degree Laureate Diploma in the category of “Women’s Ensemble.”
