Archbishop Amfilochius of Ust-Kamenogorsk and Semipalatinsk Meets with Akim of East Kazakhstan Region, E.B. Kosherbayev

On July 30, 2024, in Ust-Kamenogorsk, a meeting took place at the regional Akimat between Archbishop Amfilochius of Ust-Kamenogorsk and Semipalatinsk and Akim of East Kazakhstan Region, E.B. Kosherbayev.

The meeting was attended by: Deacon Ilia Kvan, secretary of the Ust-Kamenogorsk diocese; and from the Akimat: N.A. Saktaganov, First Deputy Akim of East Kazakhstan Region; Zh.Zh. Mekeeva, Head of the Department of Religious Affairs of the region; and I.F. Smith, Deputy Akim of Ust-Kamenogorsk.

After exchanging greetings, Archbishop Amfilochius informed the regional leader about the plans to build the Church-Historical Museum named after the Holy Martyr Alexander Dagaev and to establish the Central Sunday School in the capital of Rudny Altai.

The parties discussed joint projects between the diocese and the central mosque of Ust-Kamenogorsk, "Khalifa Altai," in the fields of educational and charitable activities.

The interlocutors particularly noted the necessity of joint efforts in the spiritual and moral education of the younger generation, emphasizing the importance of uniting the efforts of representatives of Islam and Orthodoxy for this purpose.

During the meeting, a wide range of issues of mutual interest was discussed.

Archbishop Amfilochius presented Ermek Bedelbayevich with a translated copy of the Holy Scriptures in the state language as a gift.

At the end of the conversation, which took place in a friendly atmosphere, the interlocutors exchanged well-wishes and expressed confidence that the administration of the East Kazakhstan Region and the Ust-Kamenogorsk diocese would continue their good cooperation for the benefit of the residents of Rudny Altai.
