On October 9, 2024, the oldest church in Kazakhstan’s capital, the Cathedral of the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Emperor Constantine and his mother, Empress Helena, was visited by S.A. Tarbaev, Chairman of the Committee for Tourism and Development of Tourism Infrastructure of the State Duma of the Russian Federation.
The guest was welcomed by Archimandrite Sergiy (Karamyshev), Dean of the Parishes of Astana, and Assistant Dean, Priest Sergiy Dianov. S.A. Tarbaev was accompanied by Sergey Aleksandrovich Kaimashnikov, Head of the Russian House in Astana.
Archimandrite Sergiy gave S.A. Tarbaev a tour of the cathedral, noting that this year marks the 170th anniversary of its founding. The guest was shown the cathedral’s holy relics, including the miraculous Celinograd-Pochaev Icon of the Mother of God and the image of Saints Constantine and Helena, containing relics of these saints.
Father Sergiy also showed the newly built spiritual and cultural center, discussing the parish’s life, the activities of the Sunday school for children and adolescents, and the church’s social work.
Archimandrite Sergiy conveyed well wishes from Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan and presented the guest with a copy of the Metropolitan’s new book, “The History of Christianity in Central Asia.”
