Bishop Gennady of Kaskelen Participated in the Meeting of the Inter-Council Presence Commission on Social Life, Culture, Science, and Information
November 7, 2024. Moscow. A meeting of the Inter-Council Presence Commission on Social Life, Culture, Science, and Information took place.
The event was chaired by the head of the Publishing Council of the Russian Orthodox Church and chairman of the commission, Metropolitan Clement of Kaluga and Borovsk.
 
In his opening address, Metropolitan Clement highlighted that the meeting would discuss a wide range of issues concerning key aspects of modern life, including the challenges of scientific and technological development, globalization, social justice, national policy, and demographic trends. The hierarch reminded attendees that the Russian Orthodox Church upholds traditional values and influences public opinion, emphasizing the importance of Christian enlightenment.
 
Following the introductory remarks, members of the commission’s working groups on social life, culture, science, and information presented their reports.
 
Bishop Theoktist of Pereslavl and Uglich, Priest Alexander Volkov, and E.E. Zhukovskaya spoke about seminars and conferences on artificial intelligence.
 
Bishop Joseph of Mozhaisk and S.V. Perevezentsev reported on the preparation of a draft document titled “The Unity of the Peoples of Historical Rus’ in the Face of Contemporary Challenges.”
 
Bishop Gennady of Kaskelen delivered a report on “Christian Ethics and Social Justice.”
 
N.P. Burlyaev made a presentation on “The Church and Cinema,” discussing the activities of the “Cultural Front” and the “Golden Knight” film festival.
 
P.A. Shashkin introduced a new version of the document “Economics in the Context of Globalization: An Orthodox Ethical Perspective.” He also gave a brief statement on “Spiritual and Cultural Identity in the Context of Globalization.”
 
M.A. Tyurenkov spoke about the work of a new group addressing the issues of family crisis and population preservation, emphasizing the importance of spiritual and educational initiatives promoting large families in society.
 
The meeting featured a broad exchange of views on the listed topics, and plans were made for upcoming seminars, round tables, and conferences.
