Nikolai Konstantinovich Protasov

(1867 - 1937) – Priest, Hieromartyr

Commemoration on November 19 (November 6, Old Style) in the Synaxes of New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia and Kazakhstan.

 

Born on November 21, 1867, in the village of Ivanovskoye, Plavsky District, Moscow Region, into a priest's family.

Graduated from the theological seminary.

He was ordained a priest before 1917 and served in the village of Chernyaevka, Volovsky District, Moscow Region.

In 1930, he was tried by the Arseniev District Court of the Moscow Region "for failing to meet the grain delivery quota."

In 1931, he was again tried by the same court "for non-payment of taxes" and sentenced to 1 year of imprisonment and 3 years of exile.

In 1937, he was sentenced by the OSO NKVD of Moscow under Article 58-10 to 5 years of exile in Kazakhstan. On September 16, 1937, he was arrested by the Chayanov District NKVD and held in the Chayanov NKVD prison.

The session of the NKVD troika of the South Kazakhstan Region on November 19, 1937, decided:

Protasov N.K.

To be executed by shooting.

The sentence was carried out on November 19, 1937, at midnight.

The execution took place near the city of Chimkent in an area known as Lisya Balka, where he was also buried.

He was canonized in August 2000 by the Jubilee Bishops' Council of the Russian Orthodox Church.
