Vladimir Anatolyevich Pravdolyubov

(1888-1937) – Martyr

Commemoration Day on October 4 (September 21, O.S.), in the Synaxis of the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia.

Born on June 22, 1888, in the town of Kasimovo, Moscow Province, into a priest's family. He graduated from the Philological Department of the Kiev Theological Academy. Until 1917, he taught at the Zhytomyr Teacher's Seminary. Later, he was an assistant professor at the Pedagogical Institute. From 1929 to 1930, by decree of the OGPU Collegium for anti-Soviet activities, he served a sentence in the Solovki camp.

From 1930 to 1932, he was exiled to the town of Velsk in the Northern Krai. After the exile, he taught at a pedagogical college. He had three brothers who were priests and also imprisoned in the Solovki camp.

He was arrested again on February 25, 1935. On November 26, 1935, he was sentenced by the NKVD under Article 58-10 to 5 years in a labor camp. He arrived in Karaganda from Butyrka Prison on December 27, 1935.

In 1937, Archimandrite Mavriky (Poletaev), Vasily Kondratyev, and Vladimir Pravdolyubov were arrested in Karaganda.

The meeting of the NKVD troika of the Karaganda region on September 28, 1937, decreed:

Pravdolyubov V. A.

To be executed by shooting.

The sentence was carried out on October 4, 1937.

By the decision of the Jubilee Bishops' Council of the Russian Orthodox Church from August 13-16, 2000, Vladimir Anatolyevich Pravdolyubov was glorified as a martyr. He was presented for canonization by the Almaty Diocese.
