(1863 - 1921) – Archpriest, Hieromartyr
Feast Day: February 19 (February 6, O.S.) in the Synaxis of New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia.
He was born in 1863 in the village of Selets, Trubchevsky Uyezd, Oryol Governorate.
He graduated from the Chernigov Theological Seminary in 1884, and during his studies, he worked as an observer at the astrophysical observatory.
He was ordained as a priest on March 14, 1884.
From 1885 to 1892, he served as a law teacher in a zemstvo elementary school.
In 1894, he was awarded a diploma as a correspondent by the Russian Academy of Sciences for his work at the astrophysical observatory and for observing climate changes in Russia. He also received a bronze medal for his diligence in conducting the census. For his work at the pedagogical courses, he was awarded certificates of merit by the Orlov Archpastors in 1898 and 1899.
On February 18, 1899, at the request of Bishop Arkady (Karpinsky) of Turkestan and Tashkent, he arrived in the city of Verny (now Almaty) in the Semirechye region.
On August 14, he was appointed a regular member of the Turkestan Spiritual Consistory. He taught the Law of God at the Vernensky Parish School.
From August 24, 1900, to September 2, 1904, he was a teacher at the Trinity Parish School.
In August 1902, the Verny City Duma appointed him as a trustee for the poor of Verny, and that same year, he was awarded a silver medal and a purple skufia on December 2.
From October 10, 1904, he was the head of the Kuchugur Parish School and a law teacher at the Vernensky Teacher's Seminary.
Until 1911, he served as the rector of the church in the village of Tokmak, Pishpek Uyezd, Semirechenskaya Oblast, and later was transferred to the church in the village of Vysokoe, Chymkent Uyezd, Syr-Darya Oblast (now the village of Shakpak Baba, Tyulkubas District, South Kazakhstan Region). While serving in this village, he conducted successful missionary activities.
On February 19, 1921, he was shot along with his son Anatoly during the repressions against the clergy in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
He was glorified by the Jubilee Bishops' Council of the Russian Orthodox Church in August 2000.
