Evdokia Semyonovna Nazina

(1902 - 1942) – Martyr

Commemoration day on January 11 (December 29 O.S.), in the Assembly of New Martyrs and Confessors of the Russian Church.

Born in 1902 in the village of Burminka, Novoderevensky District, Ryazan Region, into a peasant family.

On May 27, 1940, she was detained by a denunciation along with Matrona Navolokina and Evdokia Guseva in the village of Galino while they were on a pilgrimage to Ryazan. They were accused of membership in an "anti-Soviet church group" and anti-Soviet agitation for singing spiritual hymns in the house where they stayed overnight.

On June 6, an official warrant for her arrest was issued. She was part of the group case "Nazina D.I.; Ryazan Region, 1940.

From the case materials:

"An anti-Soviet church group organized opposition to the elections to the Supreme Soviet, local councils, and the population census, slandered the Soviet government, held illegal gatherings, spread anti-Soviet propaganda, recruited church members and schoolchildren, indoctrinating them with anti-Soviet sentiments, and conducted anti-Soviet agitation among the population."

She did not plead guilty.

On October 25, 1940, the Judicial Collegium for Criminal Cases of the Ryazan Regional Court found Evdokia Nazina guilty under Article 58-10 part 2, 58-11 of the RSFSR Criminal Code and sentenced her to death.

On November 5, she appealed the sentence, but it was upheld.

On January 11, 1941, the conviction was reclassified under Article 58-10 part 1 of the RSFSR Criminal Code, and the sentence was changed by the Supreme Court of the USSR to 10 years in a labor camp. She served her sentence in the KarLag NKVD.

On July 11, 1941, she was arrested in the camp on charges of "counter-revolutionary agitation and sabotage." She was part of the group case "Sundukova N.I.; KarLag, 1941." She did not plead guilty and refused to sign the interrogation protocol.

On September 29, she was sentenced to death by the permanent session of the Karaganda Regional Court at the KarLag NKVD.

She was executed on January 11, 1942, and buried in an unmarked common grave.

On April 30, 1998, she was rehabilitated by the prosecutor of the Karaganda Region.

She was glorified as a holy new martyr and confessor of Russia in August 2000 by the Jubilee Bishops' Council of the Russian Orthodox Church.
