Viktor Stepanovich Klimov

(1889 - 1937) – Priest, Hieromartyr

Commemoration Day on November 22 (November 9, O.S.) in the Synaxis of the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia.

Born on April 17, 1889, in the village of Semiyarskoe, Semipalatinsk region (now Semiyarka village, East Kazakhstan region) in the family of a stationmaster.

After graduating from Tomsk Theological Seminary in 1909, he worked as a teacher of literature at the men's gymnasium in Semipalatinsk.

In 1911, he got married.

In 1913, he was ordained a deacon, and on December 8 of the same year, he was ordained a priest by Bishop Kiprian (Komarovsky) of Semipalatinsk.

From 1914 to 1923, he served in the Resurrection Church in Semipalatinsk and was also part of the clergy of the Alexander Nevsky Church, serving as dean.

In 1922, he participated in organizing and holding meetings of clergy and laity of the Semipalatinsk vicariate, aimed at resisting the renovationist movement. On December 4, he was detained along with other participants, soon released on a pledge not to leave, and on March 5 of the following year, he was fined for participating in secret meetings.

Since 1924, he served in the clergy of the Znamensky Cathedral in Semipalatinsk. After its closure in 1931, he returned to the Resurrection Church.

On November 17, 1937, he was arrested on charges of being a member of a "counter-revolutionary spy organization of churchmen." He did not plead guilty: "I deny the testimonies of some members of the organization that I am a member of a counter-revolutionary organization. I did not conduct counter-revolutionary agitation. I cannot testify any further." He was part of the group case "Case of Archpriest Boris Gerasimov. Semipalatinsk, 1937."

On November 19, 1937, the NKVD troika of East Kazakhstan region sentenced him to death.

Executed by shooting on November 22, 1937, at 2 a.m. in Semipalatinsk. The place of burial is unknown.

He was rehabilitated on April 25, 1989, by the prosecutor of the Semipalatinsk region (for the 1937 repressions).

On December 27, 2000, by the decision of the Holy Synod, he was canonized as a saint of the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia for general church veneration.
