From 1911 to 1955, there was an episcopal cathedra (until 1923 as a vicariate) in Semipalatinsk. From 1928 to 1937, it was known as the Diocese of Semipalatinsk and Ust-Kamenogorsk, and from 1947 to 1955, as the Diocese of Semipalatinsk and Pavlodar.
The Ust-Kamenogorsk Diocese was established by the Holy Synod’s decision on October 5–6, 2011 (Journal No. 101), separating it from the Pavlodar Diocese. The Synod assigned the ruling archbishop the title of Ust-Kamenogorsk and Semipalatinsk.
The diocese unites parishes within the East Kazakhstan Region of the Republic of Kazakhstan, with a population of 1,396,746.
