Bishop Gennady took part in a meeting of the working group “Christian Ethics and Social Justice” of the commission of the Inter-Council Presence on issues of public life, culture, science and information

On 3 March 2026, a meeting of the working group “Christian Ethics and Social Justice” of the commission of the Inter-Council Presence on issues of public life, culture, science and information was held at the Publishing Council of the Russian Orthodox Church in a hybrid format.

The meeting was chaired by the Chairman of the Publishing Council and head of the commission, Metropolitan Kliment of Kaluga and Borovsk. The co-chair was the head of the working group “Christian Ethics and Social Justice,” Bishop Gennady of Kaskelen, Administrator of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District.

Participants in the meeting included: the abbot of the Vvedensky stauropegial men’s monastery Optina Pustyn, Bishop Joseph of Mozhaisk; Chairman of the Department for Relations between the Church and Society of the St Petersburg Diocese Archpriest Alexander Pelin; Chairman of the Information Commission under the Diocesan Council of the city of Moscow Priest Alexander Volkov; Second Secretary of the Diocesan Council of the city of Moscow Archpriest Mikhail Prokopenko; staff member of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate Priest Andrei Titushkin; lecturer of the Minsk Theological Academy, Associate Professor of the Department of Biblical Studies and Christian Doctrine of the Institute of Theology of the Belarusian State University Priest Svyatoslav Rogalsky; President of the non-profit organization “Foundation for the Study of Historical Perspective” Natalia Narochnitskaya; Chairman of the Orthodox society “Radonezh” Evgeny Nikiforov; Head of the Ideological Department of the Tsargrad television channel and press secretary of the World Russian People’s Council Mikhail Tyurenkov; Senior Research Fellow of the Department of Cultural Studies of the Russian Research Institute for Cultural and Natural Heritage named after D.S. Likhachev Pavel Shashkin; staff member of the Legal Department of the Moscow Patriarchate Bogdan Efremenkov; assistants to the Chairman of the Publishing Council Hieromonk Augustin (Pirogov) and Mikhail Kireev.

The main topic of the meeting was the discussion of the document “Christian Ethics and Social Justice.”

In his opening remarks, Metropolitan Kliment outlined the tasks of the joint work within the framework of the meeting.

Bishop Gennady informed those present that, within the activities of the group “Christian Ethics and Social Justice,” three meetings and a conference had been held, and presented the draft document prepared by the group, paying particular attention to the concept of justice and the various contexts in which it has been used in history and is used in the present.

During the discussion of the document, additions and amendments were proposed concerning its structure, certain formulations, as well as clarification of some concepts.

After a substantive discussion, it was decided to continue work on the document taking into account the proposals received.
