On the Day of the Leave-Taking of the Feast of the Entry of the Theotokos into the Temple, the Head of the Metropolis Celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Main Cathedral of Astana
December 8, 2024 – 24th Sunday after Pentecost; Leave-Taking of the Feast of the Entry of the Most Holy Theotokos into the Temple, and the commemoration of Hieromartyr Clement of Rome.
 
Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan presided over the Divine Liturgy in the main cathedral of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Dormition Cathedral in the city of Astana.
 
Concelebrating with the Head of the Metropolis of Kazakhstan were Archbishop Amphilochius of Ust-Kamenogorsk and Semipalatinsk; Bishop Claudian of Taldykorgan, auxiliary bishop of the Astana Diocese; Archimandrite Sergius (Karamyshev), Dean of the Parishes of Astana; Protopriest Dmitry Baidek, sacristan of the Dormition Cathedral; Hieromonk Silouan (Sinegubov), cleric of the Church of St. Seraphim of Sarov in Astana; Hieromonk Prochorus (Endovitsky), Head of the Metropolitan’s Personal Secretariat; Priest Sergey Lubnevsky; Priest Grigory Kulikov, leader of the Orthodox Youth Movement in the Astana Deanery; Priest Georgy Rublinsky, sacristan of the Kazan Cathedral in Almaty; Priest Sergey Dianov; Protodeacon Nikolay Grinkevich; Protodeacon Vladimir Syrovatsky; Deacon Ilya Kwan, Secretary of the Ust-Kamenogorsk Diocese; Deacon Ilya Davydov; Deacon Mikhail Chumakov; Deacon Ioann Churkin; Deacon Rustik Yakupov; and Deacon Yaroslav Vokhmensev.
 
For the occasion, a reliquary containing a portion of the relics of Great Martyr Catherine of Alexandria was brought to the cathedral.
 
Among those praying at the service were Abbess Sebastiana (Plotnikova) of the Convent of the Icon of the Theotokos “Seeker of the Lost” in Astana, accompanied by sisters of the monastery; diocesan staff; pilgrims; and parishioners of the cathedral.
 
The choir of the Dormition Cathedral in Astana, directed by Olga Varentsova, sang the hymns during the service.
 
Priest Georgy Rublinsky delivered a homily after the communion hymn.
 
The Liturgy concluded with the magnification of the Feast of the Entry of the Theotokos into the Temple.
 
Metropolitan Alexander congratulated the hierarchs, clergy, and parishioners on the Sunday, the leave-taking of the Feast of the Entry of the Theotokos into the Temple, and the joy of hosting the reliquary with the relics of Great Martyr Catherine in Astana. He then addressed those present with a pastoral sermon.
 
At the end of the service, the Metropolitan presented awards to those who labored for the benefit of Orthodoxy in Kazakhstan:
  • In recognition of his labors for the benefit of the Orthodox Church in Kazakhstan and on the occasion of his 40th birthday, Deacon Ilya Davydov was awarded the Order of Hieromartyr Pimen of Verny and Semirechye.
  • In recognition of his labors for the benefit of the Orthodox Church in Kazakhstan and on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of his diaconal ordination, Priest Sergey Dianov was awarded the Order “For Labors” (“Еңбек Үшін”).
