On January 18, 2025, on the eve of Holy Theophany, Archbishop Barnabas of Pavlodar and Ekibastuz led the festal Vigil at the Annunciation Cathedral in Pavlodar.
His Eminence was joined in concelebration by the clergy of the main cathedral of the Irtysh region’s capital.
During the Matins service, while the canon of Theophany, “The Deep Has Been Revealed,” was being sung, the archpastor anointed the clergy and parishioners venerating the icon of the Baptism of the Lord with holy oil.
On January 19, the Feast of the Baptism of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Archbishop Barnabas celebrated the Liturgy of St. Basil the Great and the rite of Great Blessing of the Waters at the Annunciation Cathedral.
Concelebrating with His Eminence were: the Secretary of the Pavlodar Diocese and Dean of the Pavlodar Church District, Protopriest Alexey Stepanov; the cathedral clergy Priest Alexey Gmyza and Deacon Ambrosy Taukenov.
The cathedral choir, directed by Elena Yusupzhanova, sang the liturgical hymns.
Among the faithful gathered in prayer were: Abbess Seraphima (Bolibok), the superior of the Sts. Peter and Paul Convent in Pavlodar, along with the sisters of the monastery; members of the Cossack community; diocesan staff; and students of Sunday schools.
Following the Prayer Behind the Ambo and the singing of the troparion “The Voice of the Lord is Upon the Waters,” the clergy proceeded to the center of the church, where Archbishop Barnabas performed the rite of Great Blessing of the Waters.
At the conclusion of the festive service, the archbishop congratulated the gathered faithful on the great Feast of the Baptism of the Lord and delivered a pastoral homily.
