March 7, 2025 – Almaty. On Friday of the first week of Great Lent, following the evening service at the Church of Blessed Matrona of Moscow at the Iveron-Seraphim Monastery, the Head of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan, Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, performed the monastic tonsure of Protopriest Dmitry Baydek, the sacristan of the Dormition Cathedral in Astana.
Present at the tonsure were Archimandrite Ioann (Sazonov), spiritual father of the Almaty Diocese, and Hieromonk Prokhor (Endovitsky), personal secretary of the metropolitan.
The newly tonsured monk received the name Dmitry, in honor of Saint Dmitry, the Righteous Tsarevich of Uglich and Moscow.
At the conclusion of the rite, Metropolitan Alexander addressed the newly tonsured Hieromonk Dmitry with words of spiritual guidance. As a blessing for monastic life, the hierarch presented him with an icon of the Theodorovskaya Mother of God.
Hieromonk Dmitry (Baydek) has been assigned to the Aksai Hermitage in honor of the Holy Venerable Martyrs Seraphim and Theognost of Almaty.
