The Fortieth Day of the Repose of Archbishop Serapion of Kokshetau and Akmola

The Fortieth Day of the Repose of Archbishop Serapion of Kokshetau and Akmola

On March 8, 2025, forty days had passed since the repose of Archbishop Serapion of Kokshetau and Akmola.

At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy in the St. Nicholas Cathedral of the Southern Capital, Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan served a memorial litia for the newly departed hierarch.

Praying at the service were: the dean of the churches of Almaty, rector of St. Nicholas Cathedral, Archpriest Valery Zakharov; Honored Artist of Russia and member of the Patriarchal Council for the Development of Church Singing, O.N. Ovchinnikov; the sacristan of St. Nicholas Cathedral, Archpriest Igor Svetlichny; Hieromonk Dimitry (Baidik), clergy, and the faithful of the churches of the Southern Capital.

Archbishop Serapion reposed in the Lord on the night of January 27–28, 2025, at the age of 60. The newly departed hierarch was laid to rest by the altar of the St. Michael the Archangel Cathedral in Kokshetau.

In his address about the departed archpastor, Metropolitan Alexander said:
“At a young age, Archbishop Serapion chose the path of serving God and his neighbor in monasticism and the holy priesthood. Throughout his life, he labored for the glory of the Lord, dedicating his strength and talents to the benefit of the Church of Christ, ensuring that the word of God grew and spread (Acts 12:24). Being a native of Kazakhstan, he deeply loved this ancient and blessed land. With humility and trust in God’s wise providence, the late archbishop bore the cross of his pastoral ministry. Unexpectedly for all of us, the Almighty called His faithful servant to Himself—one who always strove ‘to be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity’ (1 Tim. 4:12). May Christ, the Giver of Life and the Conqueror of Death, forgive the newly departed Archbishop Serapion for every voluntary and involuntary sin, grant his soul rest in the heavenly dwellings where the righteous find peace, and make his memory eternal and blessed.”
