April 7, 2025 – Almaty. A working meeting took place at the Metropolitan Joseph (Chernov) Spiritual and Cultural Center – the administrative and spiritual hub of the Metropolitan District of Kazakhstan – between Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan and the newly appointed Archbishop of Kokshetau and Akmola, Barsanuphius.
Metropolitan Alexander warmly congratulated Bishop Barsanuphius on his appointment to the new place of ministry, wishing him God’s help in the spiritual care of the God-saved flock of the Akmola Region.
The newly appointed hierarch expressed his gratitude to the Head of the Orthodox Church in Kazakhstan for his words of guidance and asked for prayers for the descent of strengthening divine grace in his archpastoral ministry on the blessed land of Kazakhstan.
Metropolitan Alexander, who temporarily governed the Kokshetau and Akmola Diocese from January 28 to March 20, 2025, handed over to Archbishop Barsanuphius, now taking over the Kokshetau cathedra, a package of essential diocesan administrative, canonical, and legal documents as required by the Statute of the Russian Orthodox Church.
One of the topics of the meeting was the discussion of the program for the upcoming visit of Metropolitan Alexander to the Kokshetau Diocese, during which Archbishop Barsanuphius will be formally presented to the clergy, the faithful, and representatives of the regional government as the new ruling archpastor.
On March 20, 2025, the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church appointed Archbishop Barsanuphius (Vinnichenko) of Novoazovsk as the Bishop of Kokshetau and Akmola (Journal No. 7).
