April 8, 2025 – Kokshetau. Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan has arrived with an archpastoral visit to the Kokshetau Diocese of the Metropolitan District of Kazakhstan.
Accompanying the Head of the Orthodox Church in Kazakhstan on the trip are: the newly appointed Archbishop of Kokshetau and Akmola Barsanuphius; Head of the Administrative Secretariat of the Metropolitan District, Priest Georgy Sidorov; Head of the Protocol Service of the Metropolitan, Protodeacon Roman Golovin; Protodeacon Vladimir Syrovatsky; and Deacon Ioann Churkin.
At the airport, the Metropolitan and the newly appointed ruling bishop of the Kokshetau Diocese were welcomed by: Secretary of the Diocesan Administration and Dean of the Resurrection Cathedral, Priest Valery Anferov, and Head of the Department for Religious Affairs of the Akmola Regional Akimat, B.N. Kasenov.
During the conversation, the Head of the Metropolitan District, Archbishop Barsanuphius, and Bolat Negmetzhanovich discussed the cooperation between the Kokshetau Diocese and the Department for Religious Affairs of the Akmola Region.
On April 9, Metropolitan Alexander will celebrate the Divine Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom, concelebrated by the diocesan clergy, at the Resurrection Cathedral in the city of Kokshetau (beginning at 8:30 AM). At the conclusion of the service, the Primate of the Orthodox Church in Kazakhstan will officially introduce the clergy and faithful to their new ruling archpastor – Archbishop Barsanuphius of Kokshetau and Akmola.
On the same day, Metropolitan Alexander will preside over a meeting of the diocesan clergy.
The program of the Head of the Orthodox Church in Kazakhstan includes: working meetings on diocesan affairs; and meetings with regional government officials and representatives of public organizations.
