The Head of the Orthodox Church in Kazakhstan introduced the newly appointed ruling hierarch of the Kokshetau and Akmola Diocese – His Eminence Archbishop Barsanuphius – to the heads and staff of diocesan departments and commissions, deans of church districts, clergy, and representatives of parish lay councils.
Among those present at the meeting were: Bishop Benjamin of Talgar, Vicar of the Astana Diocese; Archimandrite Nikolai (Karpov), Rector of the Church of the Archangel Michael in Shchuchinsk; Protopriest Vasily Kachankin, cleric of the Church of the Archangel Michael in Kokshetau; Hieromonk Dimitry (Baydek), Sacristan of the Cathedral of the Dormition in Astana; Priest Valery Anferov, Secretary of the Diocesan Administration and Dean of the Resurrection Cathedral in Kokshetau; as well as clergy from churches of the Kokshetau Diocese.
In his opening remarks, Metropolitan Alexander gratefully recalled the labors of the ever-memorable Archbishop Serapion, who had served for over ten years in the spiritual field of the Akmola Region.
During the meeting, current issues of church life at both diocesan and parish levels were discussed. The Head of the Metropolitan District emphasized the need to intensify spiritual education among youth and to broaden the Church’s presence in the digital space. Participants also discussed topics such as social and charitable ministry, cooperation with governmental authorities, and the restoration and revival of church shrines destroyed during the years of persecution.
A separate topic of the meeting was the preparation of parishes of the Kokshetau Diocese for the celebration of Holy Pascha.
At the conclusion of the gathering, the Metropolitan responded to questions from the clergy.
His Eminence wished Archbishop Barsanuphius and the clergy the help of God in shepherding the God-loving flock of the Akmola Region.
