Metropolitan Alexander Discussed Current Issues of Monastery Life with the Abbess of the Capital Convent in Honor of the Icon of the Mother of God “Recovery of the Lost”

June 6, 2025. Astana. Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan held a meeting with the abbess of the convent in honor of the Icon of the Mother of God “Recovery of the Lost” in the city of Astana – Hegumeness Sevastiana (Plotnikova).

Also present at the meeting was Archimandrite Sergiy (Karamyshev), Dean of the Astana Church District.

Metropolitan Alexander held a working discussion with the abbess on current issues of monastery life. Key topics of the meeting included the expansion of spiritual and educational outreach and the development of pilgrimage to the miraculous Pochaev–Tselinograd Icon of the Mother of God – a revered copy of the revealed Pochaev Icon of the Queen of Heaven, kept in the monastery.

His Eminence, together with the Dean and the abbess, discussed plans for renovation and restoration work at the Alexander Nevsky monastery church, which this year marks the 45th anniversary of its consecration. Metropolitan Alexander emphasized the need for thorough preparation to solemnly mark an historically significant date – the 100th anniversary of the birth of the ever-memorable founder of the convent, Archimandrite Kirill (Borodin), which will be commemorated in 2030.

The Head of the Mitropolitan District also highlighted the importance of preserving in this convent, dedicated to the Most Holy Mother of God, the ancient traditions of piety passed down by its founders – true confessors of the faith of the 20th century.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Metropolitan Alexander bestowed his archpastoral blessing on Hegumeness Sevastiana (Plotnikova) and the sisters of the monastery.
