On the Sunday Commemorating Venerable Tikhon of Lukhov, Metropolitan Alexander Celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Representation of the Metropolitan District in Moscow

June 29, 2025 – the 3rd Sunday after Pentecost; the commemoration day of Venerable Tikhon of Lukhov, Wonderworker of Kostroma, and Saint Theophan the Recluse of Vysha. Saint Tikhon of Lukhov, who lived in the 16th century, is one of the multitude of venerable ones who shone forth with feats of prayer and piety in the ancient land of Kostroma.

Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the church in honor of the Holy Martyrs Faith, Hope, Love and their mother Sophia at the Patriarchal Metochion in the city of Moscow — the Representation of the Metropolitan District of the Russian Orthodox Church in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Concelebrating with His Eminence were: the sacristan of the church of the Holy Martyrs Faith, Hope, Love and their mother Sophia, Hieromonk Antony (Drobyazko); Protopriest Pavel Vishnevsky and the clergy of the metochion.

The choir of the church sang under the direction of Anna Rozhnova.

Praying at the Liturgy were: the Secretary of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, choirmaster of the choir of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District, member of the Patriarchal Council for the Development of Russian Church Singing O.N. Ovchinnikov; staff of the Representation, benefactors of the Patriarchal Metochion, and parishioners of the church.

The sermon after the communion hymn was delivered by Protopriest Pavel Vishnevsky.

The Liturgy concluded with the glorification of Saint Theophan and Venerable Tikhon.

At the end of the service, Metropolitan Alexander congratulated the parishioners on the Sunday and addressed those gathered with words of spiritual exhortation.


Saint Tikhon of Lukhov, who lived in the 16th century, is one of the multitude of venerable ones who shone forth with feats of prayer and piety in the ancient land of Kostroma. Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, during his service as Archbishop of Kostroma and Galich, labored to revive the veneration of the saint among the residents of the region. In the city of Volgorechensk, through the efforts of His Eminence, a majestic cathedral was built in honor of Venerable Tikhon of Lukhov, consecrated on September 29, 2007. The Tikhon Cathedral became a significant spiritual and educational center in the city of Volgorechensk.
