August 9, 2025. Almaty. At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy in St. Nicholas Cathedral, Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan congratulated the Dean of the parishes of the Southern Capital, Rector of St. Nicholas Cathedral, Mitred Protopriest Valery Zakharov, on the significant occasion of the 50th anniversary of his pastoral ministry.
The Head of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan presented Father Valery with the Order of St. Sergius of Radonezh, First Class. His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’ awarded the Dean of Almaty this high honor for his zealous labors for the benefit of the Holy Church and in connection with the 50th anniversary of his priestly ordination.
Presenting the Patriarchal order, Metropolitan Alexander, in particular, noted:
“This year marks half a century of your ministry at St. Nicholas Cathedral in Almaty. You have shown constant care for your beloved church, preserved its ancient liturgical traditions, and labored diligently for the enlightenment of children and youth. It is gratifying to note that now, as before, in all circumstances, you strive to be an example of spiritual steadfastness, devotion to God, and fidelity to your calling, working tirelessly so that henceforth the word of the Lord may spread and be glorified (2 Thess. 3:1). Therefore, your authority among your fellow pastors is so high, the love of your flock toward you so sincere, and your public recognition so widespread. Your many years of service have been marked by high Church and state awards and tokens of appreciation. The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’, has honored you, on your special date, with one of the highest Church awards – the Order of St. Sergius of Radonezh, First Class – making you a knight of this order. I wish you, dear Father Valery, that through your care the people of God may grow in righteousness, piety, faith, love, patience, and gentleness (1 Tim. 6:11).”
The Metropolitan presented Father Valery with a holy prosphora and a bouquet of flowers.
