The Head of the Metropolis Consecrated Bells for the Church Under Construction in Astana

August 21, 2025. Astana. Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan visited the construction site of the church complex, which includes the Cathedral in honor of All Saints Who Shone Forth in the Land of Kazakhstan, the Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh, and the spiritual, cultural, and educational center of the Metropolis of Kazakhstan.

Upon arrival, His Eminence performed the rite of consecration of the bells for the belfry of the church under construction in honor of St. Sergius of Radonezh.

Praying during the service were: Archimandrite Sergy (Karamyshev), Dean of the Astana church district; Hieromonk Dimitry (Baydek), Sacristan of the Assumption Cathedral; Archpriest Sergy Kaliev, Sacristan of the Church of Saints Constantine and Helen; Priest Georgy Sidorov, Head of the Administrative Secretariat of the Head of the Metropolis; Protodeacon Roman Golovin, Head of the Metropolitan’s Protocol Service; S.M. Kuandykov, Head of the International Cooperation and Protocol Sector of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

After the prescribed prayers, the hierarch sprinkled the bells with holy water. A Many Years was proclaimed to the builders of the church and the benefactors who donated funds for the casting of the bells. The Head of the Metropolis blessed those present with the altar cross.

The set consists of twelve bells, cast with the blessing of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan in the city of Tutayev (Yaroslavl region, Russia) at the bell foundry of Andrey Dyachkov. The largest bell weighs 400 kilograms. Together with the bells, the craftsmen will install an “electronic bell-ringer” system, which sets the tongues of the bells in motion. In addition to traditional church ringing, this system allows for the striking of chimes, melodically marking each hour throughout the day.

His Eminence warmly congratulated those present on this significant event in the life of the church under construction in honor of St. Sergius of Radonezh, after which he held a working meeting.

It is expected that during the Patriarchal visit to Kazakhstan in September of this year, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’ will visit the educational center under construction and consecrate the newly built church.

The Orthodox spiritual and educational center is being erected in Astana with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill and with the approval of the state authorities of the Republic of Kazakhstan, represented by the country’s President Kassym-Jomart K. Tokayev. The construction is being carried out with funds from benefactors.
