Metropolitan Alexander presided over the patronal feast of the Representation of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan in Moscow

30 September 2025 – the afterfeast of the Exaltation of the Cross of the Lord, the commemoration day of the heavenly intercessors of the city of Alma-Ata and Semirechye – the Holy Martyrs Faith, Hope, and Love, and their mother Sophia.

On 17 September (30 September in the new style) 1854, on the day of the Holy Martyrs, the Zailiyskoye Fortification was solemnly consecrated and renamed the city of Verny – in honor of the Martyr Faith. At the same time, in memory of the heavenly patrons of Semirechye, the first Cossack stanitsas founded at the foot of the Zailiysky Alatau by settlers from Western Siberia were named: Nadezhdinskaya (Issyk), Sofiyskaya (Talgar), Lyubavinskaya (Kaskelen).

The Representation Church of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan in Moscow – the Church of the Martyrs Faith, Hope, Love, and Sophia in Miusy – celebrates its patronal feast.

At the Representation Church, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated by Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan.

Concelebrating with the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan were: Metropolitan Arseny of Zvenigorod, Administrator of the North-Eastern Vicariate of the city of Moscow; Bishop Seraphim of Istra, Chairman of the Synodal Youth Department; Archimandrite Sergy (Karamyshev), Dean of the parishes of Astana; Archpriest Georgy Klimov, Dean of the Trinity Deanery of the North-Eastern Vicariate of the Moscow (City) Diocese; Archpriest Vasily Movchanyuk, Dean of the Churches of the Yartsevo Deanery of the Smolensk Diocese; Archpriest Evgeny Ivanov, Rector of the Almaty Theological Seminary, Head of the Information and Publishing Department of the Metropolis of Kazakhstan, Candidate of Theology; Igumen Agafangel (Gagua), Vice-Rector of the Almaty Theological Seminary, Candidate of Theology, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor; Hieromonk Alexander (Serpeninov), resident of the Holy Trinity Sergius Lavra, staff member of the Protocol Service of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia; Hieromonk Anthony (Drobyazko), Assistant to the Head of the Metropolis of Kazakhstan; clergy of the city of Moscow and guest clergymen. The deacons were led by Patriarchal Archdeacon Konstantin Bargan.

The parish choir sang under the direction of Anna Rozhnova.

Praying at the Liturgy were: Deputy Head of the Secretariat of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation – N.V. Parshikova; Acting Director General of “Sofrino” – V.A. Levin; staff of the Representation and parishioners of the church.

The service concluded with the veneration of the Precious and Life-Giving Cross and glorification of the Holy Martyrs Faith, Hope, Love, and their mother Sophia.

Afterwards, Metropolitan Alexander warmly thanked Bishop Arseny, the clergy, and the faithful for the common prayer, congratulated those gathered on the celebration in honor of the Martyrs Faith, Hope, Love, and Sophia, and on the patronal feast of the historic Moscow church in Miusy.
