Father Archdeacon was the most senior cleric of the Uralsk Diocese of the Kazakh Metropolitan District – a gifted musician and vocalist, graduate of the Moscow State Conservatory. For many years, he carried out the obedience of diocesan secretary in Uralsk; in recent times, he served as a cleric of the Pokrovsky Convent in Uralsk.
In the letter of condolence from Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, in particular, it is said:
“By the foreordination of the all-gracious Providence of God, Father Vasily was vouchsafed to serve the Church in the rank of archdeacon, bearing witness to the greatness and beauty of Holy Orthodoxy. For many years, he labored in the field of Christ, diligently fulfilling ecclesiastical obediences and reverently celebrating the divine services, so that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ might be glorified (2 Thess. 1:12). Participating in the services, the reposed helped to create a festive and reverent atmosphere. His service at the Holy Altar was combined with the responsible obedience of diocesan secretary of the Uralsk Diocesan Administration, which he carried out conscientiously and with dedication, thus earning the respect of the hierarchy, clergy, and faithful.”
The Orthodox faithful of Kazakhstan remember Father Vasily as a kind, responsible, and humble servant of the Church.
May the Kingdom of Heaven and eternal rest be granted unto the newly departed Archdeacon Vasily.
