The Head of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan, Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, visited the Epiphany Cathedral in Yelokhovo.
The Metropolitan was accompanied on his pilgrimage by the Vice-Rector of the Almaty Theological Seminary, Candidate of Theology, Doctor of Medical Sciences, and Professor Igumen Agafangel (Gagua).
Before one of the most ancient Orthodox relics – the wonder-working Kazan Icon of the Mother of God – His Eminence offered prayers and venerated the holy relics of Saint Alexis, Metropolitan of Moscow and All Russia.
Before the sacred shrines of Yelokhovo Cathedral, the archpastor raised special petitions for the episcopate, clergy, monastics, and laity of the Metropolitan District, and for peace and prosperity in Kazakhstan.
Metropolitan Alexander also offered memorial prayers for the ever-remembered Patriarch Sergius, buried in the Chapel of Saint Nicholas, and for Patriarch Alexy II of blessed memory, whose relics rest in the Annunciation Chapel of the cathedral.
Thirty-six years ago, it was in the Epiphany Cathedral in Yelokhovo, Moscow, that the episcopal consecration of Bishop Alexander took place. By the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Pimen, the ordination was led by the ever-memorable Metropolitan Vladimir of Rostov and Novocherkassk (later Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church).
Metropolitan Alexander and Catholic Archbishop Tomasz Peta discussed issues of inter-Christian and interreligious dialogue in Kazakhstan
