11 November 2025. Almaty. Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan served a memorial panikhida in the Matrona Church of the Iveron–Seraphim Convent for the newly departed rector of the Cosmas and Damian Church, Archpriest Georgy Chistyakov, who reposed in the Lord on this day after a long illness.
Concelebrating with the archpastor were: Rector of the Almaty Theological Seminary Archpriest Evgeny Ivanov; Vice-Rector for Educational Work Priest Ioann Livinsky; Head of the Biblical and Theological Department Priest Oleg Lisin; Head of the Administrative Secretariat of the Head of the Metropolis Priest Georgy Sidorov; and the deacons’ choir.
The funeral hymns were sung by the choir of the Sophia Cathedral of the Iveron–Seraphim Convent under the direction of O. Usoltseva, and the mixed choir of the Almaty Seminary under the direction of O. Kuznetsova.
At the conclusion of the panikhida, Metropolitan Alexander addressed the faithful with an archpastoral word.
The clergy and congregation sang Eternal Memory for the newly departed Archpriest Georgy.
The reposed pastor earned the respect of his fellow clergy and the love of his parishioners and spiritual children.
