Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan Visited the Construction Site of the Church of Saints Cosmas and Damian in Almaty

On 19 November 2025, in Almaty, Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan visited the parish of Saints Cosmas and Damian.

The Head of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan was accompanied by the president of the public foundation “Eleos-Meirim”, Valery Mikhailovich Kapsamun.

In the church, in the presence of clergy and parishioners, the metropolitan offered a memorial litiya for the newly reposed rector – Archpriest Georgy Chistyakov. Today marked nine days since his repose in the Lord.

The archpastor then familiarized himself with the ongoing construction work of the brick church dedicated to the Holy Unmercenaries and Wonderworkers Cosmas and Damian, which is being built through the support of benefactors and the voluntary donations of the faithful, with the assistance of the “Eleos-Meirim” foundation.

Metropolitan Alexander visited the workshop where the metal coverings for the domes of the future church are being manufactured.

The hierarch warmly thanked Valery Mikhailovich and the foundation’s specialists for their active participation in the noble work of establishing the church, which will become another spiritual center of the metropolis.
