The Visit of the Head of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District to the Karaganda Diocese Has Begun

22 November 2025. The Head of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan, Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, arrived in the city of Karaganda with an archpastoral visit.

Upon his arrival in the Mining Capital, the Metropolitan offered a moleben in the Entry–into–the–Temple Cathedral before the reliquary containing the relics of the last Optina elder and heavenly patron of Kazakhstan – the Venerable Confessor Schema–Archimandrite Sevastian (Fomin).

Metropolitan Alexander offered fervent prayers for the archpastors, pastors, monastics and laity of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District, and for peace and prosperity in Kazakhstan.

Praying together with His Eminence in the cathedral were: Archbishop Sevastian of Karaganda and Shakhtinsk, Archbishop Amphilochius of Ust–Kamenogorsk and Semipalatinsk, Archbishop Varsonofy of Kokshetau and Akmola, Bishop Klavdian of Taldykorgan, Vicar of the Astana Diocese, Bishop Khrysanph of Shymkent and Turkestan, Bishop Vianor of Uralsk and Atyrau; the clergy of the Entry–into–the–Temple Cathedral; and clergy of the Almaty Diocese accompanying the Metropolitan on his journey.

The program of the visit of the Head of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan includes: working meetings on diocesan matters; communication with the clergy; meetings with regional civil authorities and representatives of public organizations; visits to churches.

On 23 November, the 24th Sunday after Pentecost, Metropolitan Alexander will celebrate the Sunday Divine Liturgy in the Holy Trinity–St. Sevastian Cathedral, concelebrated by the archpastors of the Metropolitan District. The service will begin at 8:30.
