The Rite of Tonsure into the Great Schema of Archimandrite Peter (Goroshko) Took Place at the Nativity of the Mother of God Monastery of the Karaganda Diocese

January 28, 2026. Karaganda. On the day of commemoration of Venerable Paul of Thebes, by the blessing of Archbishop Sebastian of Karaganda and Shakhtinsk, the rite of tonsure into the Great Schema of the spiritual father of the Karaganda Diocese, Archimandrite Peter (Goroshko), was performed at the Nativity of the Mother of God Monastery.

The tonsure was carried out by the spiritual father of the Karaganda Deanery, Hieromonk Moses (Patrikeev).

The newly tonsured received the name Pachomius – in honor of Venerable Pachomius the Great.

Following the tonsure, Hieromonk Moses addressed the newly tonsured Schema-Archimandrite Pachomius with words of spiritual exhortation.

The Great Schema, also called the Great Angelic Habit, signifies complete renunciation of the world for the sake of union with Christ. Tonsure into the Schema grants the monastic a special grace for ascetic struggle. The grace of the Schema has been described by the Holy Fathers as a “second baptism.”
