A children’s Divine Liturgy was celebrated on the 4th Sunday of Great Lent at the Ascension Cathedral of the city of Alma-Ata

22 March 2026, on the 4th Sunday of Great Lent and the commemoration day of the Forty Martyrs of Sebaste, a children’s Divine Liturgy was celebrated at the Ascension Cathedral of the city of Alma-Ata, in which children of adolescent age took part as those praying, singing and serving in the altar.

With the blessing of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, the service was led by the key holder of the main church of the Southern capital, Head of the Metropolitan District’s Department for Relations with the Public, Archpriest Alexander Suvorov.

The liturgical hymns were performed by the choir of the church singing school «Tsevnitsa» at the Ascension Cathedral of the Southern capital under the direction of N. Golovina.

Praying at the service were: Head of the metropolitan’s protocol service Protodeacon Roman Golovin, Protodeacon Vladimir Syrovatsky, parents of the pupils of the Sunday school at the main church of the Southern capital, and parishioners of the cathedral.

Numerous young participants of the Liturgy partook of the life-giving Mysteries of Christ.

The service concluded with the glorification of the Forty Martyrs of Sebaste, after which Archpriest Alexander Suvorov thanked the choir groups for their prayerful singing and addressed those present with a sermon.

At the conclusion of the Liturgy, the key holder of the main church of the Southern capital sprinkled the faithful with holy water.
